Dimitri Rozenbaum, 18, who came to the Academy as a tourist from Antwerp, Belgium, was spiritually lost when he arrived in Israel.  "The Mechina develops your personality. I learned what’s important in my life, why I was here, why I'm going to fight in the army, what I am fighting for, and the importance of the Land of Israel."  Dimitri entered the program at a religious crossroads in his young life. "I'm learning a lot about emunah (faith).” he adds.  “They're helping me find answers to many of my questions."

Yanir Oz, 19, from Netanya, can also be considered "religiously disgruntled."  Yanir grew up in a religious home. His father is the head of the Beth Midrash at Moshav Chispin in the southern Golan. Nonetheless, he found himself slipping through the cracks and in need of a solution.  "Keshet is not like the high school I attended where the rabbis tell you what to do, and everyone just does it. You eventually get the idea here at Keshet that they're here for your good, to help and support you. This begins to inspire you to go to the lessons and to tefillot (prayers)," says Yanir.  "The rabbis here encourage you to stay on if necessary, because it's another half year to mature, a half year where you get a better understanding of things," he says.

Yariv Peeri, 18, a Canadian resident born in Netanya, claims that he never seriously wavered in his observance, and that he came to the Mechina to get some spiritual "chizuk," or reinforcement.  "I was never in a situation where I was losing my religion, but I could never be a yeshiva student, sitting all day in front of books. I need to be active," he says.  Yariv will do full army service when he completes the program, and he is hoping to be selected for an elite combat unit.
